Our Story: Helping Ashlee Heal and Return Home
On Saturday, November 2nd, our lives were forever changed when my wife, Ashlee, suffered a severe stroke at just 35 years old. For the first two weeks, she could only move her eyes. Despite these immense challenges, Ashlee’s determination shines through every day.
Ashlee is a devoted wife and a loving mother to our 5-year-old daughter, who will start Year One in 2025. With Ashlee unable to work, we face mounting financial pressures. After gaining power of attorney, I discovered that Ashlee had recently removed her income protection insurance from her superannuation, leaving us without critical financial support during this time.
Although doctors cannot provide a clear recovery timeline, research suggests it could take up to a year to understand the full extent of Ashlee’s abilities. In the meantime, we need to modify our home to accommodate her needs and maintain our mortgage payments while she focuses on rehabilitation.
A Moment of Hope and Progress
Ashlee is actively participating in the creation of this page by using a device that tracks her eye movements to type on a tablet. While the process is slow, this form of communication is invaluable, giving her a voice and playing a crucial role in her rehabilitation.
I will update this page weekly with her progress. This week, we celebrated a small but significant milestone, relearning how to swallow: Ashlee was able to taste apple juice for the first time since her stroke. After almost a month of tasting only saliva and phlegm, this simple experience brought joy to our entire family and reminded us of the power of small victories.
We are incredibly grateful for any support, whether it’s a donation or simply sharing our story. Your kindness and generosity will help bring Ashlee home and support her journey to recovery.
With heartfelt thanks,
Ashlee and Adam
